MRKNOWITALL'S PHOTO ALBUM 1 AND UPDATER

                                   Version 5.2 07/14/05

Folder (photoalbumtemplate) contents:

parchment.jpg
parchmentring.jpg
yelgrain.gif
closewindowbtn.jpg
photoalbumtemplate.html
photoalbumupdater.html
index.html
photoalbum readme.txt

Save the photoalbumtemplate folder and all its contents to your hard drive.

Creating new albums using the template files:

1- Create a new folder to hold your album. Name the folder for this particular album using only lower case letters, with or without numbers and NO spaces. Example 'album01', 'vacation01' or 'a01'.
This folder will be part of the link to the album if used on a website.

2- Copy all files located in the photoalbumtemplate folder and paste them to the new folder you just created.

3- Now, working in your new folder, rename the web page that is now 'photoalbumtemplate.html' by right clicking it and selecting 'rename' from the dropdown list. Give it a name to represent this album, such as 'album01' or 'myvacation' or 'weddingphotos'. When renaming a page, do not add the .html to the name. Notice, only use lower case letters, with or without numbers and no spaces. That name will be the rest of the link to the album. i.e. <a href="album01/myvacation.html"> That points to the folder first and then the page inside.

NOTE: There is also an 'index.html' page that goes in the folder. It stops people on the web from entering your directory files. You can copy and paste this page in any and all your folders that are in your main directory.

4- Next copy all the photos (jpgs) from your files that will be used in this album and paste them into the folder you created so they are with the 6 files listed above. HINT: photo sizes should be between 350 pixels and 600 pixels wide. I like to have mine 550 in width. And they do not all have to be the same size. The photo album will size down the photos to fit the book and when the photo is clicked it will open full size in a popup window.

5- Click on 'photoalbumupdater' and open it. Enter your information for each photo, starting with the date picture was taken, then below that the file name of the photo, as in muffin.jpg, below that the title of the photo, as in My Cat, and below that the description or comment for this photo. After entering the description click the 'create this code' button and the code will appear at the bottom. At this point you can stop or add more photos. To add more photos, just start with the date again and work you way down to 'create this code' again. When you have added all photos click the 'copy codes to clipboard!' button and you are ready to add the photo code to the photo page.

6- In the new folder, right click the photo album page that you named before and select 'edit' from the dropdown list. The page code will open in notepad.

7- Scroll down the page about quarter of the way untill you see this:
<!-- Insert code for next picture or pictures above this line. -->
Right click ABOVE that line and from the dropdown list select 'paste' and your photos have been added to the page.

There are two more item's to change on the page to make it your album. The Title and Heading.

8- At the top of the page code you will see this:
<TITLE>PHOTO ALBUM TITLE</TITLE> Change the title to represent the name of this album. i.e. 'Our Wedding Photos'. This is what visitors see at the top of their browsers and will show in their favorites if they save to favorites. This may contain caps and spaces.

9- A short way down the page, before the photos you will see this:
<CENTER><H1>PHOTO ALBUM TITLE</H1></CENTER> Change this to represent the name of this album. i.e. 'Our Wedding Photos'. This item is the text that appears above the photo album itself on the page.

Both these items can have caps and spaces.

You can also add background music to the album. I suggest a midi file. Save the midi file to the photo album folder along with all the images and photos. Edit the ablum.html page and enter the name of the tune in the space provided under <bgsound src="here".

Now you're ready to close with the X, and notepad will ask if you want to save changes. Select 'YES'!

Click the photo album that you renamed to view your photos.
Print this page for easy instructions to follow.
